15 Sep Homes North Launches Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2025-2027

Homes North is proud to announce the formal endorsement of our third Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) by Reconciliation Australia.

This RAP represents our ongoing commitment to working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, listening, learning, and taking meaningful action toward reconciliation.

At the heart of our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan are the commitments that guide our work and shape how we walk alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These commitments go beyond words – they represent our determination to transform respect and goodwill into meaningful action, ensuring reconciliation is deeply woven into the way we provide housing, build relationships, and support thriving communities –

• Building respectful and genuine relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Embedding cultural awareness and safety across our organisation and services.
• Expanding employment and development pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Advocating for truth-telling, equity, and self-determination.
• Celebrating significant cultural events including National Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC Week, and Survival Day.

Our RAP is beautifully illustrated with artworks by Shakayla Spearim and Georgia Jane, two young Gomeroi artists from Tamworth, whose work reflects culture, connection, resilience, and community.

Homes North CEO, Maree McKenzie, emphasises that this RAP is about laying strong foundations to embed reconciliation in all aspects of Homes North’s work, acknowledging both progress and the challenges of recent years.

Homes North Chair, Ken Bone, highlights that while housing is a first step, true success comes when people can fully participate in their communities.
