28 Nov Homes North Supports 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence
The occurrence of domestic and family violence across Australia is at crisis point. Many women and children experience gender-based violence and it must end. It is unacceptable that 1 in 3 women have experienced violence by a partner, other known person or a stranger since the age of 15.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. This year’s global theme is “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”. The campaign calls on citizens to show how much they care about ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence towards women. This year’s campaign also calls on governments worldwide to share how they are investing in gender-based violence prevention.
As a community housing provider, we strive to provide safe and secure homes. Our Rent Choice Start Safely program provides short to medium-term private rental assistance for people who do not have a stable and secure place to live due to domestic or family violence. The program supports people who have recently left or need to leave an unsafe relationship by helping them find a safe and affordable place to rent. The program provides rental assistance for up to 36 months and additional supports, helping to stabilise lives.
Throughout this 16 Days of Activism, let’s work together today, tomorrow and every other day, to create a future where we are all safe, equal and respected.
