Tenants must use this form to request approval from Homes North to keep a pet or animal in their rented property in accordance with Clauses 53, 54, and 55 of the 2023 Residential Tenancy Agreement. Homes North will review your application and provide a written response within 21 days. By submitting this form, you are agreeing to the Terms of the Agreement outlined below.
Terms of the Agreement
1. I acknowledge my responsibility to keep my pet clean, quiet, and controlled at all times to ensure it does not disturb the peace, comfort, or privacy of neighbours and visitors.
2. The yard must be kept clean and free of droppings, with lawns maintained to their original condition and free of holes.
3. I understand and agree to ensure that my pet(s) are provided food, water and appropriate living environments.
4. I acknowledge and agree to follow the tethering Animal Cruelty Act 1979 No 200.
5. I agree to ensure my pet does not stray unsupervised outside the property (except for cats).
6. I acknowledge full responsibility for any property damage caused by my pet.
7. The owner must comply with all applicable legal requirements for keeping my pet, including the Companion Animals Act 1998 and local government regulations.
8. In line with the Companion Animals Act 1998 and local government regulations, I understand that I am prohibited from keeping any restricted or dangerous dogs.
9. I accept full responsibility for my pet’s health and welfare, including keeping it free from parasites and diseases. In the event of my pet’s death, I agree not to replace it with another animal unless approved by Homes North and/or the landlord.
10. I acknowledge that if I am found to has mistreated or neglected my pet, I will be prohibited from keeping any pets.
11. I acknowledge my agreement not to breed or board any animals.
12. I acknowledge that I must obtain further permission from Homes North if I wish to keep an additional pet, and I understand that the decision to grant permission is solely at Homes North’s discretion.
13. I acknowledge that I have approval to keep a pet at the property where I am currently residing, address as given in this form.
14. During scheduled property inspections the pet must be restrained to allow full access to all areas of the property.
Upon vacation of the premises, the following is met:
1. The yard is left in original condition.
2. It will be the tenant’s responsibility to arrange pet control where animals have been kept.
3. I agree to pay for the steam cleaning of carpets at the end of my tenancy under Section 19(3) of the Residential Tenancies Act 2010.
4. Any damage to the premises caused by the pet will be charged to the tenant.
